VIDEO: Simeon Jackson's goal against Villa + morning EPL & MLS rumours

Going Wacko for Jacko

Gillingham's Canadian striker Simeon Jackson has been a bright light with 11 goals in League Two this season, and he proved he's capable of finding the back of the net against higher competition with a dynamite strike against Aston Villa on the weekend.

(Hat-tip to ag futbol at The Voyageurs for digging this up.)

MLS

+ From The 24th Minute: TFC's Dwayne De Rosario is looking for a pay raise to about $600,000 per season. He would not be a DP though, the extra salary would be covered with allocation money.

+ Also from the same blog: Joey Melo has been released by Toronto FC.

+ FC Dallas is looking to trade up to the number two slot (held by Toronto) in the MLS draft to select defender Omar Gonzalez. Canadian international Adrian Serioux could be dangled as trade bait.

+ TFC Connected lists the top 50 players in MLS.

EPL

+ Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing has handed in a transfer request.

+ Pascal Chimbonda's move from Sunderland to Lyon is "dead".

+ Arsene Wenger is looking for a player with "really special class".

+ Manchester City have bid £12m for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker. Apparently there's also an £18m plus Tal Ben Haim bid offered to Blackburn for Roque Santa Cruz. Meanwhile Mark Hughes, says he needs three transfer windows to make the Sky Blues a force.

+ Rangers manager Walter Smith says Barry Ferguson will not be off to Newcastle.

+ Ten stars that will be available on free transfers in the summer.

+ A serious pandemic: Footballers and their love of shit music.

Italy

+ Juventus have made a shock approach for Michael Owen.

+ Inter Milan continue to be linked with Genoa striker Diego Milito.

+ David Beckham has been receiving praise from his AC Milan teammates.

+ Lazio are on the brink of signing CFR Cluj's Argentine star Sebastian Dubarbier.

Spain

+ Valencia have dismissed reports that David Villa is on the verge of a move to Barcelona.

That was quite a goal by Jackson, he made Knight look like a pylon.  That goal could certainly see him finish January at a club above League Two.

I think that Serioux would be a good player for TFC to grab.  Especially for a draft pick.

I have never thought that Downing was that good a player if I were Boro I would be laughing all the way to the bank.

I checked out the potential Bosmans, and It will be interesting to see who moves where from that group.  We know that Owen and Davis have been offered new deals, whether they are accepted is another matter.

I also wanted to say how disgusted I am by the people that are calling up Defoe and leaving threats. (news.bbc.co.uk/.../7810341.stm)  Actions like that don't entice a player to stay in fact they entice a player to leave, along with everyone else.

Also I think that it is ridiculous when clubs lie to their fans, for example Defoe missed the FA Cup tie with the Flu (more like dont-cup-tie-itis).  Why not just tell everyone that Defoe is going (which they have done) and say that they didn't want to cup tie him as it would slightly decrease the money that they receive.  But given that City are out of the FA Cup, Juventus aren't in the FA Cup, and the fact that Harry won the Cup without Defoe last year I think that if he is still a Pompey player he should play in the replay at Bristol.  As I think it is more important for Pompey to make the next round then it is for Defoe to be cup tied.

I've seen Downing play a couple of times and he's impressed me, actually. Because he plays for Boro, you almost never hear about him. Boro is right that £6 million is a joke of an offer but their price tag of £15 million is also much too high. £10 million seems more reasonable to me.

It was nice to see Simeon's goal on the Score during their daily recaps.  It would have been nicer however, if the narrator would have mentioned that Simeon is indeed a Canadian.

From Sky Sports: 21.05  Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is hoping to keep hold of star striker Simeon Jackson this month after he impressed on the big stage on Sunday. Ipswich are thought to be interested.

Just like I thought, onwards and upwards for Simeon.

Is Zaki considered a transfer target for anyone?  Despite the not so hot recent form, i think he has the characteristics most teams would like up top (hard working, ability to finish).
