  • Spain's New Year's offerings

The first weekend of 2009 lacks the lustre you might be hoping for. The English Premier League takes the weekend off to get some FA Cup action in. You know they're still celebrating the new year in Italy so no Serie A either. And the Bundesliga takes the whole month off, leaving La Liga to give us our premium soccer fix. They definitely deliver with a couple of matches, and they took the liberty to space em out which is always nice. Valencia vs. Atletico Madrid Saturday, 4pm EST Here is a great...

  • Stock up after the holidays, Juande will

Since taking over just a few weeks ago, Real Madrid boss Juande Ramos has been very vocal about the players he is interested in acquiring to beef up his injured riddled squad. Kristian and I have shivered at the thought of Ashley Young wearing the famous white shirt, but reassurances from Martin O'Neill , and Real's lack of interest in spending what he's actually worth, have made that a slimming fear. Tottenham's Aaron Lennon was also rumoured to be high on the post Christmas wish...

  • A new voice on The Footy Blog: bear with me people

You may know me as the host of The Hardcore Footy Show on Hardcore Sports Radio, but you most likely know me as the brunt of James Sharman's Portuguese bashings on the occasional podcast. Either way I am very happy to be the newest member of The Footy Show blog team. I'm not sure what hazing rituals these guys have, but hopefully it's nothing worse than watching Honduran division two soccer for an extended period of time. I'll add another opinion to the Champions League conversations...

  • Good News For Hume, Schuster Sacked and Replaced by Ramos

Things are looking encouraging on Iain Hume's road to recovery from a fractured skull, with the Daily Mail reporting the Canadian striker is setting a goal to return to training in two months . Hume also hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing before the end of the season according the report. Considering this wasn't just a career threatening injury but a life threatening one, I think we're talking about a best-case scenario if Hume is in fact able to return to training by February...

  • EPL Baker's Dozen

Happy Tuesday footy folks, Kristian Jack back with you to give you 13 of the many thoughts that popped in my head over the weekend. 1. We know Hull are third and we know they've done incredibly well so far but unless you've watched a bulk of their games you may not know that this team is the hardest working team in the league. Seeing overachievers work incredibly hard and beat talented underachievers is something I enjoy in all aspects of life. 2. When I was a teenager I loved Dwight Yorke...

  • Morning Links - Friend hits out at Mitchell, Adams to lead Pompey, Ljungberg Salary

Report: Friend will not play under Mitchell Hat tip to SCF08 at the Voyaguers for digging up an article in Bild that has Rob Friend quoted as saying he won't play for the Kanadischer National Mannschaft under Dale Mitchell. The translated quotation : '' I've been travelling all around the world lately. It's exhausted me and got me nowhere. I dont see any future for myself at Canada with Dale Mitchell in charge. I want to fully focus myself on Borussia Mochengladbach ''I...

  • The Sharman 5 revisited (Oct 26/08)

Wow! Now that is what I call an entertaining weekend of footy! I love the game at the moment, just love it. Before you call me to task, that's not just because Liverpool are tops ok! Here goes. Wazza eying 100 at Goodison (Everton vs Man Utd) Can you believe it's been six years since Wayne Rooney made his debut with Everton? Here we are now, he is one shy of one hundred career goals, and by darn, he's at Goodison! The Toffee faithful have let The Roon hear it over the years since he joined...

  • Weekend Roundup - Ramos, Ljungberg, Gerba and more

Ramos Stabbed in the Back? That's the angle The Sun is going with anyway. Apparently Juande Ramos insists "at least three of his underperforming ‘stars’ said he had lost the dressing room before his Tottenham exit on Saturday night." He's also claiming he had zero influence over Tottenham's transfers. Or at least someone at The Sun is claiming that's what he claims. There's no direct quotes in there. The article also links Ramos to the managerial position at Atletico...

Happy Monday footy folks, Kristian Jack back with you to give you 13 of the many thoughts that popped in my head over the weekend. 1. We truly continue to blessed with great games live on The Score Television Network. Sunday's had it all - sendings off, penalties missed and scored, injuries oh and yet another Tottenham loss. Juande Ramos is the luckiest man in football right now. 2. Lets get one thing straight. One of those teams who played in that game on Sunday is going down. I know its only...
