My Bio

Where'd you grow up? - Born in Birmingham, England and spent the years of 1-21 in Preston, England.

What is the first soccer game you went too? - Aston Villa vs Norwich City in 1987. Villa won 4-1 and I was hooked for life.

Favourite team(s)? - Born and bred Aston Villa. And where I am from, trust me, you're only allowed one club. In other sports I'm also a big fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Atlanta Braves and New England Patriots.

Who were your favorite players as a kid? - Villa legends Paul McGrath, Dalian Atkinson, David Platt and Dwight Yorke.

All-time favorite player? - David Platt whose goal for England vs Belgium in the 1990 World Cup is one of the greatest ever.

Favorite manager? - Ron Atkinson for his no nonesense attitude (managed Man Utd from 1981-1986 & Aston Villa from 1991-1994). I guess he wouldn't survive in an era of political correctness these days.

Describe playing soccer as a kid and when you realized you were not going to make it as a professional soccer player? - I don't remember realizing I couldn't make it because I always knew how crap I really was.

If you could play on any soccer team ever, who would you play for, at what position, and why? - Goalkeeper for Brazil at the 1970 World Cup. The easiest job on the field and I'd get to be apart of such a wonderful side.

Who would you play in your all-time XI? - I've been watching football for the last 25yrs so I'll just keep it from 1983 onwards: GK - Peter Schmeichal, D - Cafu D - Franco Baresi, D - Paul McGrath, D - Paolo Maldini, M - Cristiano Ronaldo, M - Roy Keane, M - Lothar Matthaus, M - Kaka, F - Dennis Bergkamp, F - Jurgen Klinsmann. Subs - Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Hristo Stoichkov, David Platt, Alessandro Nesta.

Who is your all-time favourite pro athlete?Nigel Mansell and yes motor racing drivers are athletes although Nigel never quite fitted that mold but his determination and passion behind a steering wheel was equaled by no one.

Your proudest soccer moment? - Watching Villa beat Man Utd at Wembley in 1994 denying them of the treble.

The best live event(s) you've attended? - In football it has to be the World Cup that my wife and I went to in Germany. Saw live games and enjoyed a truly magical fun (and safe) experience. Other sports events include all 39 Formula One Grand Prix races I've been to in some great countries including the magic of Monaco.

Craziest sports vacation - Call me crazy but all of my vacations include sport somehow. Backpacking in Australia and New Zealand for 3 months once led to 4 different cricket grounds, 3 rugby stadiums, an NPC semi-final, Moto Grand Prix race and the Paralympic games.

Did you find broadcasting or did it find you? - It really found me. I am a journalism graduate and spent most of my time in the UK in newspapers until I came to North America and started my television and radio career.

Favourite broadcasters? - There is nothing better than cricket and baseball commentators who have a wonderful way of describing the action where you don't feel the need to reach for the controller and turn on the television. For that there is no better than the late, great Brian Johnston while Vin Scully is pretty outstanding too. In football (soccer) Alan Green of the BBC is by far the best for his wit and refreshingly honest opinions.

If you could interview any soccer personality, who would it be and why? - I didn't interview him but I produced an interview of Pele and was fortunate to meet the greatest player to ever live. The one I haven't done but would desire to is Diego Maradona so I can tell him what an absolute disgrace he is and how him being mentioned with the greats of the game is one of the true injustices of football.

When you're not at the office, what are you doing? - Taking care of my incredible wife and beautiful little girl.

Hey KJ,

Just want to start by saying it's great that you've become a regular on the Footy Show. You often interject some excellent points and opinions.

However, during the October 4th telecast, you made reference to Arsenal having an easy schedule for two months, following their match versus Blackburn. Sure, Arsenal plays Birmingham after the International Break, but following that, our next two EPL matches are West Ham and Tottenham, respectively.  London derbies are always challenging, and not "light" matches, especially Spurs, our North London rivals. Arsenal also play Chelsea at the end of November.

Be more careful when you generalize on the perceived ease of another team's fixture list.

Regards.

Hello Kristian,

I know you have a busy scheduele, but I have had the urge to ask you for a post on the blog which would enlighten, educated (somewhat) and create a good conversation on the blogg. Placing a list of world class players. You know it works but it would be a great conversation point and I know as you do have good feelings for some players you are always fair and on the point and could possible be the one to make the proper list, that would do justice to the world class tah.

Think about it and keep up the brilliance.
