The Los Angeles Kings have clawed away dependable defenceman Rob Scuderi from the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Scuderi, arguably one of the best defenders left on the free-agent market, signed a four-year, $13.6-million contract ($3.4M avg. per season) on Thursday afternoon.
"LA!" That was how Scuderi confirmed the signing in a text message to Pittsburgh Tribune writer Rob Rossi.
The 30-year-old native of Syosset, NY., was the most reliable of Pittsburgh's blueliners during its playoff run. He logged the most shifts per game (26.3) and had the most short-handed ice time of any Penguins defenceman.
Scuderi gets a significant raise by moving to Los Angeles. He was big-time bang for the Penguins buck in 2008-09, having earned $725,000.
