Stay Classy, Phillies Fans

Never ones to shy away from their reputation as complete dickheads, during game four of the World Series, Phillies fans poured beer on a nine-year-old boy, and forced a Rays family member to lock himself in a bathroom stall, "because, he said, Phillies fans were banging on the walls and threatening him." And there's even more-- according to the St. Petersburg Times. "From talking to the Rays on Sunday," John Romano wrote, "the Phillies fans trampled all over every acceptable line of decency."

Rays manager, Joe Maddon's granddaughter had mustard packets thrown at her-- which, all things considered, really isn't so bad. Classily, Maddon took the whole situation in stride:

"I was actually giving a guy a hard time for drinking Coors Light in Philadelphia. I said, 'Where's the Schmidt's? At least some Rolling Rock. Don't be going with Coors Light.' It's so unfashionable for a Philly dude. I was all over him about that, so we had a good time.

"Really, the biggest part is the families, if we could do something about that. Throwing mustard packs at my granddaughter is not very cool. The other part, I'm good with."

And hey, the security staff did throw twelve fans out of the ballpark. I'm sure the 45,891 other fans-- who, Romano points out, certainly hadn't spent the two hour rain delay before the game getting annihilated on Schlitz-- were calm and decent. Right?

Oh, and then there are these winners, trying to crush the hoods of any passing car they can get their hands feet on in celebration of the Phils' game three victory. Now, this is especially odd to me because presumably some of the cars being jumped on belonged to Phillies fans, seeing as, y'know... they were in the middle of fucking Philadelphia!

And let's not let it pass without noting that this is after game three! It's not quite like Leafs fans honking their horns outside my window all night after winning the first game of the first round, but still, it's only game three. Man alive, there's a lot of pent up frustration in that city's sports community. I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend not driving around on the night that the Phils finally put the series away...
