Unintentional World Record Ski Jump

I'd be lying if I said that I had heard about this at all when it first happened, but apparently back in March, rumours were circulating in the Freeskiing community that a veteran Norwegian skiier, Fred Syversen, had unintentionally-- and unofficially-- set a world record when filming a movie in the Swiss Alps, by taking the wrong line and accidentally going over a 107m (350 foot) cliff.

Here is what he said at the time (with some help from me to make it more English-y):

This was the warm up run at the beginning of the day during heli[copter]-filming, and it turned out that I missed the end of my line. ... I let my skis go pretty much into the falline and pick[ed] up speed instantly. ... [I quickly] realized my [error,] and that I [was about to] go out [over] something, probably huge.

The mind works amazingly fast under stressed situations; breaking or trying to stop was no longer an option, it simply went too fast. If I had tried that I wouldn’t [be here to] write this. So that left one choice; go for it, and do it right!

There was no photo or video evidence at the time, so... well... let's just say that some people were maybe a bit skeptical. Like the guy who left this barely-decipherable comment in response:

who is this guy r u kiddn me wer is the cliff drop ,, please jamie peirre is the record holder any who is droppn more than 255 feet will b filmn it dont quit yor day job fred cuase skiing off of cliffs :which i didnt see’ is not yor gig,, please get rid of this web site its a farce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! farce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!farce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rite?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! afarce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, finally, the video has surfaced, as well as pictures from that day, and... holy shit, this guy seriously did accidentally go off a 350 foot cliff (the world record was 245 feet) and somehow managed to survive.
