I'm not entirely sure why this phenomenon appears to be limited to only the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it turns out, according to this post from Sports By Brooks, that in the last 12 years, 21 former Steelers have died before the age of 60-- some much earlier. Happy Super Bowl week!
