We’ve all been hearing about Andre Agassi lately—about his new autobiography, his meth use, and his wig—and in his latest dip into the media world he goes even farther, telling Katie Couric and CBS’s 60 Minutes of his deep-seated dislike of tennis as a young boy, his father’s obsessive drive to make him a champion tennis player, which led to his depression and, eventually meth use.
“It always came with a level of anxiety, it always came with a level of pressure, none of it really made sense to me. So, I don’t ever remember really not hating it,” he says.
Yikes. And of the now-infamous 1990 French Open final, which he lost amid fears that his wig would fall off, he says, “When the match was over, I’d won… because my hair had stayed on.”
The interview—in two parts—is pretty fascinating. Apologies if there are a couple of commercials in there—those clever CBS digital media people are sneaky!
