Morning Link Dump – Jenn, Olympics, Wilt, Ginobili

jenn Obligatory Sports Babe

Since, via Deadspin, we learned yesterday that Jenn Sterger has decided to get rid of her implants, this seems like as good a time as any to feature her here. “I made an adult choice to get rid of the very things that were perhaps the only reason I started out on this journey,” she says on her website. “I then decided to bare that decision, along with my confusion and my soul for the public to bare witness.” Crazy.

Interesting Souvenir

“The words ‘leftover’ and ‘condoms’ are not typically combined to start a sales stampede, but one Chinese collector of Olympic memorabilia is hoping he will be able to unload his 5,000 condoms from the 2008 Olympics at an auction,” explains Sports Rubbish. Uh… good luck.

London Olympics Getting Costly

“If somebody gave you an estimate for work, then kept revising it upwards after you’d given the go-ahead, you’d surely be livid. How angry would you be if you were asked to pay six times the original figure, with no guarantee that the bill wouldn’t rise further?” asks Complete and Utter Zebu. “That’s the case with the 2012 Olympics,” which was originally expected to cost £2.1-billion, and is now estimated at £12-billion.

Mental Floss has put together a pretty fantastic list of 50 things you don’t know about Wilt Chamberlain. … Well… OK, it’s only 5 things, but what’s a zero between friends?

Is the dead bat in this Tweet Photo, found under the stands at the AT&T Center in San Antonio by local broadcasters Sherman Hamilton and Paul Jones the one that Manu Ginobili swatted out of the air on Halloween? Better question: who cares about dead bat carcases?

If, for some reason, you ever actually cared to have explained to you what the hell the NHLPA mess is all about, Elliotte Friedman of the CBC pretty much nails it as hard as anybody possibly could.

Jeff Blair Has This Pan-Am Games Thing Figured Out

“Noblesse oblige is a terrible thing to waste,” writes Blair in the Globe and Mail, “as is demonstrated by the fact most people in Toronto are either apathetic or apologetic about the city getting the Pan Am Games. It's nice that Hamilton's getting a new stadium, and I guess that mass transit stuff in Toronto will be good, too, although it tells you something about the city that it's depending on a third-rate sports event to think of city planning as something beyond throwing up another condominium. The only people who seem worked up about this are the idle rich who lobbied for the event, and it will be fun watching Toronto try to make sense out of this because there are two things the city doesn't do very well: win and maintain perspective.”

I love how Blair talks about how Toronto can't maintain perspective?

First off, I don't even know what this means.

Second off, Blair is an idiot. Somehow he went from baseball reporter to all sports analyst.
