• Battle of Ontario - Game 2: Leafs 1 @ Sens 2 (SO)

Finally a great game in the Battle of Ontario. It was looking like Toskala was going to win the game by himself. The game stats will show that the game was pretty even, but Toskala turned away several great scoring chances by the Ottawa Senators. 50+ hits in the game... and mostly clean. The Senators remain unbeaten in black. I'm glad I'm not Hartsburg as I suggested it might not be wise to inject Fisher too quickly against a team that was clearly planning to hit everything in sight. But...
  • Fish busts slump; Sens dump Caps in OT

The six million dollar man finally broke his slump and figured in on both Ottawa goals to help the Senators dump Ovechkin & Company in OT. Fisher started the scoring for Ottawa when he hit Heatley coming out of the box for a breakaway goal. But Fleischmann evened things up just over 2 minutes later with a nifty backhand when Chris Neil failed to clear the zone and Washington "capitalized" on the chance (that's my best impression of Ron MacLean). Neil had another brain fart when...
  • Game 11: Senators 2 @ Lightning 3 (SO)

For the third consecutive game, the Senators was not televised on regular cable (at least the previous 2 were on NHL Network which I get). I couldn't even go to a bar and watch this game! Apparently Lightning fans don't watch Saturday night games... it's probably a big wrestling night or something. Auld put in another solid performance and it took 8 rounds in the shootout to decide the winner. I can't decide whether St. Louis' shootout goal was awesome or not. It was the slowest...
  • Game 7: Ducks 4 @ Senators 3

I started writing this post at the beginning of the third period and I had to restart a couple of times. Down 4-0, I was getting ready to to talk about how Anaheim's goals were the type that just came from lazy defensive play in front of our net. You know... the unassisted kind that happen when the guy covering you doesn't drive you to the ice when he has the chance. Then the Ottawa Senators finally woke up and took advantage of some powerplay time, scoring a pair of goals 37 seconds apart...
  • Coming home with 3 of 4 pts!

There is no goalie controversy! Not yet anyway. Hartsburgh had already decided to split goaltending duties for the back to back games against Pittsburgh so don't read anything into Auld getting the start in game 2 even though Gerber had an average outing in the opener. Auld did a great job and came within 1.1 seconds of shutting out his former teamates. Dany Heatley is off to a torrid pace scoring 3 goals in 2 games. I thought Alfie had a much better second game and Spezza wasn't as visible...
