  • Six Pack Rankings: 10th Edition

    1. Calgary (20-11-4) The red-hot Flames became the first member of the Six Pack to reach the 20-win mark this week. Not to mention, they have only lost one game in regulation in their last 10 outings. Don't worry Flames fans, this blogger is aware of your team's Northward move in the standings. Now, can a team other than Montreal hold top spot for consecutive weeks? We'll find out in seven days. 2. Montreal (19-9-6) To the Habs and their great supporters, it's not you, it's the...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 9th Edition

With the holidays just around the corner, I examine the Six Pack for the ninth time this season. While the Canucks find a 6-5 Swede under their tree, the Oilers and Sens continue to find coal in their stockings. Here is my latest take on Canada's six teams. 1. Montreal (18-9-5) The Habs capped off another winning week with an OT win over Buffalo Saturday night, and they should keep it going with a home-date versus Carolina on Sunday. Montreal has hit their fair share of rough spots early on,...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 8th Edition

After a two-week hiatus, the Six Pack Rankings are back for the eighth time this season. Have a look at where your team sits after a third of the NHL season has passed us by. Don't agree with me? As always, leave your comments, compliments, criticisms and insightful "feedback." Enjoy. 1. Montreal (16-8-5) Saturday's loss to the Capitals was a heart-breaker, but you are going to have those over the course of an 82-game NHL season, no matter how good you are. After their torrid start...

    1. Montreal (13-6-4) After being out of the top spot for one measly week, the Habs reclaim their rightful spot as the top team in Canada. They hit a bit of a bump in the road, and still aren't completely out of the woods, but a big win over the champs and a character win last night over Buffalo will hide that blemish against the lowly Islanders earlier in the week. 2. Calgary (14-9-1) They're knocking on the door of the spot we all though they would be at some point or another, no.1 in the...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 6th Edition

The Leafs and Sens continue to occupy the Six Pack basement, while there is a shake-up at the top in the latest instalment of the Six Pack Rankings. 1. Vancouver (13-6-2) The Canucks reeled off three straight wins to finish the week, including two impressive performances over the Rangers and Penguins. But the Canucks might have reached their peak. If Luongo's injury is as bad as it looked, the Canucks may quickly fade to the bottom of this list before you know it. 2. Montreal (11-5-3) About the...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 5th Edition

A month and a half into the season and we now have a pretty good perception of all six Canadian teams' identities. Here is how the Six Pack stacks up as of November 16: 1. Montreal (9-4-2) It's hard to keep the Habs in the no.1 spot after a couple of poor weeks that have seen them lose four of five. Their only win this week was against the listless bottom-dwellers of this list, but the fact remains that if all six Canadian teams battled it out, Les Canadiens would emerge victorious. 2. Vancouver...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 4th Edition

It's incredible what a simple ranking can mean to passionate sports fans, especially when those fans are Canadian hockey fans. Case in point, last week , the post was bombarded with 35 comments. Without further ado, let's begin round four. 1. Montreal (8-2-2) Regardless of what happened in Toronto , the Habs are still Canada's top team. It's going to take a lot more than one bad game here and there to knock them from this spot. While it will be virtually impossible to continue on...

  • Six Pack Rankings: 3rd Edition

Another week of hockey has come and gone in the marathon known as the N.H.L. regular season. Here is how the six Canadian teams stack up so far, in the third edition of the Six Pack rankings: 1. Montreal (8-1-1) This is a recording, the Montreal Canadiens are the best of Canada's six N.H.L. teams. But seriously, after another perfect week (3-0-0) the Habs are in a class of their own through 10 games of the season. What a way to top off the week too, with a thrilling come from behind win over...

  • It's a Start...

Well first, let me touch on the weekend heartbreak that was a pair of losses to the Oilers. No, I haven't been hiding in shame. I spent all weekend moving into my new condo (yes, I am officially a homeowner... and the proud owner of a sweet new flatscreen to make the Flames games even better...) so I really didn't have time to put my sorrow into words. Until now. I don't know what was worse, watching the Flames lose 4-3 at home while allowing three power play goals, or watching the Flames...

  • Looking Good

Five games into the NHL preseason, and Darryl Sutter looks like he finally might have grasped the concept of this whole "new NHL" thingie. Since the rule changes were implemented a few years back, Sutter continued to pursue the same type of players that took him to the Finals in 2004 - clearly the wrong approach. This past off-season, his entire approach seemed to change. Bringing in guys like Cammalleri, Glencross, and Bourque has not only improved the team's overall speed, but also...
