• Alfie injured; Sens battle back to win in OT

Well that was quite the game to watch, once they ironed out the audio and video technical difficulties. There's no better way to get your first goal for a team then the game winner in overtime! Almost 70 hits were thrown in the game, with 42 coming from Ottawa. Of course there was the questionable non-call on Lehtinen's hit from behind on Alfie. It was borderline, but I think that penalty gets called 8 times out of 10. Alfie might have hurt a knee going in to the boards. If Alfie misses any...
  • Alfie a Senator for life!

The Ottawa Senators announced today that Daniel Alfredsson has signed a 4 year extension that should make him a Senator for life. The new contract includes a bonus to get rid of the two remaining option years and is top heavy to reduce the cap burden in future years. Year 1: $4 million in salary with a $3 million signing bonus, plus $2.1 million for the removal of the option years from his old contract for a total $9.1 million. Year 2: $4 million with a $3 million signing bonus for $7 million. Year...
  • Game 4: Coyotes 3 - Sens 6

Free pizza for everyone! Are they even doing that promotion this year? If so, Pizza Pizza is out 20,179 slices after a 6 goal performance by the Sens. So many positives in this game: Alfie returns a week early after having a bone chip removed from his knee and sets up 2 goals in the first period. Spezza shuts up his critics with a 4 point night (2g,2a). Heatley scored his 4th goal in 4 games. Kuba picked up his 5th and 6th assists. Gerber gets his first win of the season. Volchenkov scored his first...
  • Alfie to undergo knee surgery!

I purposely skipped picking Alfie in my regular season pool because I know the guy is going to miss 10-15 games. I just didn't expect it to be in the first two weeks of the season! Apparenlty the surgery is required to remove a bone chip in his right knee and that it happened in Game 2 against Pittsburgh in Sweden. He's optimistically only going to miss a couple of weeks, but it's still bad news considering we barely won a game with him out of the lineup last year. This won't bode...
  • Coming home with 3 of 4 pts!

There is no goalie controversy! Not yet anyway. Hartsburgh had already decided to split goaltending duties for the back to back games against Pittsburgh so don't read anything into Auld getting the start in game 2 even though Gerber had an average outing in the opener. Auld did a great job and came within 1.1 seconds of shutting out his former teamates. Dany Heatley is off to a torrid pace scoring 3 goals in 2 games. I thought Alfie had a much better second game and Spezza wasn't as visible...
