• Alfie injured; Sens battle back to win in OT

Well that was quite the game to watch, once they ironed out the audio and video technical difficulties. There's no better way to get your first goal for a team then the game winner in overtime! Almost 70 hits were thrown in the game, with 42 coming from Ottawa. Of course there was the questionable non-call on Lehtinen's hit from behind on Alfie. It was borderline, but I think that penalty gets called 8 times out of 10. Alfie might have hurt a knee going in to the boards. If Alfie misses any...
  • Game 14: Senators 1 @ Hurricanes 2

Well it was a familiar story in Carolina. Actually it was 2 familiar stories as Gerber allowed 2 third period goals and Joe Corvo setup the game tying goal and then got the winner for a come from behind win. For the second consecutive game, the Senators had a goal called back, but this one was because the goalie blocked the camera and it was inconclusive that the puck crossed the line. Then there was Ruutu's blast from the blue line that appeared to tie the game up late, but his linemate was...
  • Game 7: Ducks 4 @ Senators 3

I started writing this post at the beginning of the third period and I had to restart a couple of times. Down 4-0, I was getting ready to to talk about how Anaheim's goals were the type that just came from lazy defensive play in front of our net. You know... the unassisted kind that happen when the guy covering you doesn't drive you to the ice when he has the chance. Then the Ottawa Senators finally woke up and took advantage of some powerplay time, scoring a pair of goals 37 seconds apart...
  • Game 6: Panthers 3 @ Senators 1

Craig Anderson did what Gerber has not been able to do yet this year. He completely stole this game for the Florida Panthers stopping 42 shots while Gerber continues to let in soft goals, allowing 3 on 21 shots. Long gone are the days of never losing back to back games in Ottawa, and the lack of a legitimate powerplay quarterback was glaringly obvious tonight. The only positive we can take from this game is the penalty killing, but Florida's was pretty good too. Auld will get the start on Friday...
  • Game 4: Coyotes 3 - Sens 6

Free pizza for everyone! Are they even doing that promotion this year? If so, Pizza Pizza is out 20,179 slices after a 6 goal performance by the Sens. So many positives in this game: Alfie returns a week early after having a bone chip removed from his knee and sets up 2 goals in the first period. Spezza shuts up his critics with a 4 point night (2g,2a). Heatley scored his 4th goal in 4 games. Kuba picked up his 5th and 6th assists. Gerber gets his first win of the season. Volchenkov scored his first...
  • Coming home with 3 of 4 pts!

There is no goalie controversy! Not yet anyway. Hartsburgh had already decided to split goaltending duties for the back to back games against Pittsburgh so don't read anything into Auld getting the start in game 2 even though Gerber had an average outing in the opener. Auld did a great job and came within 1.1 seconds of shutting out his former teamates. Dany Heatley is off to a torrid pace scoring 3 goals in 2 games. I thought Alfie had a much better second game and Spezza wasn't as visible...
  • Sens drop opener in OT

Game 1 is in the books and it's probably one that Spezza would have liked to remember instead of trying to forget it. After scoring a shorthanded marker to give Ottawa a 3-2 lead heading into the third frame, Spezza was well on his way to being named a star of the game. In fact he was announced as the game's second star until his dangle on the offensive blue line led to a turnover and the game winner by Kennedy. After the commercial they came back and said they had made a mistake and that...
