• Life without Louie

Well it's no surprise that the Canucks are struggling without Roberto Luongo in net, I think everyone on the planet predicted they would spiral a bit when he went down on Nov. 22 in Pittsburgh. In stepped Curtis Sanford and it appeared as though all would be well, he won two straight as the Canucks surged up the division. Cory Schneider, an NHL rookie, was called up to play backup and in his second start he got his first win in the bigs. The problem has been that while there have been nice highs...
  • Enter Sandman

As the world's most famous groin injury heels, the Vancouver Canucks are leaning on Curtis Sanford and Cory Schneider to get the job done in net. So far, so good. Sandman, who has started two of Vancouver's last three games, is currently on a three game winning streak; his most impressive being a 32-save performance in a monumental win this past Monday night against the Detroit Red Wings. His last three wins have come against teams that won their respected divisions last season, so obviously...
  • Luongo expected to miss 4-5 weeks

The Vancouver Canucks are supposed to announce the severity of Roberto Luongo's groin injury later today, but a report out of Montreal says Vancouver's captain is expected be sidelined four-to-five weeks. The source is Luongo's agent Gilles Lupien. Good news for Canucks' fans who were fearing the worst. Luongo did not look good leaving the ice on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Stats

Vancouver is playing well, really well, and it shows in the stats. At times it's easy to read too much into mere numbers, but Vancouver's rise up the Northwest Division standings is a clear reflection of the stats. Take Roberto Luongo for example, he's known for stopping pucks and this past week he did a lot of it. Three straight shutouts and four in his last six games has Louie looking better than ever, his save percentage is up to .920, ninth overall, and his goals against average is...
  • Bingo, Bango, Bongo Captain Luongo

It's unorthodox and I love it. On Tuesday the Vancouver Canucks named goaltender Roberto Luongo as their new captain. The move came as a bit of a shocker as NHL rule 14.D states that goalies can't actually serve as captains, Louie won't actually be wearing the "C" on his jersey though, the Canucks will opt to have three alternate captains instead, namely Ryan Kesler, Willie Mitchell and Mattias Ohlund. Coach Alain Vigneault and GM Mike Gillis came to the decision that Luongo...
